Banksia

The banksia nut is native to Australia. This flora is particularly interesting as it goes through several transformations to reach the final product.

 banksia grandis

Banksia grandis is the largest of the banksia species. It grows up to 30cm in height and 15cm in diameter making it suitable to be transformed into a heel.

The fresh yellow spikes of the flower dry out and fall off. The exposed nut continues drying as the closed valves open up, shedding seeds for regeneration. The nut reaches the end of its lifecycle and falls to the ground. These are then handpicked and milled into an enduring heel, to reveal a beautiful exotic pattern.

The banksia nut has never been crafted into a heel before. Each heel is unique revealing its own grain and pattern.
