The Banksia nut is native to Australia. This flora is particulary interesting as it goes through several transformations to the final product.
The fresh, yellow spikes dry out and fall off. The exposed nut contines to dry out while simultaneously the closed valves open up. The nut is then picked and milled to reveal a beautiful, exotic pattern.
There are about 170 species of Banksia. Banksia Grandis is the most suitable to be transformed into a heel as it grows up to 30cm in height and 15cm in diameter.
The uses of this product are very limited and has never been used as a heel, let alone a fashion item. Each heel is unique and is handpicked from the native Australian bush.
